Masters Level Clinical Intern/Trainee Job Description

                                                   Starting Wage:  Volunteer                              Hours: 20-24 hours per week *

Specific Responsibilities: Accountable to Program Manager, Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Supervisors. Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual, group, case management, training, resource development, and administrative duties as assigned in coordination with university curriculum outlined in practicum learning agreement. Responsible for producing and maintaining timely program-specific documentation and internship assignments within deadlines. Responsible for scheduling and planning for individual and group supervision. Responsible for completing and maintaining up-to-date timesheets and monthly reports.  *Position requires an average of 20-24 hours per week but may require more at times. May work with other programs in the agency to complete hours during practicum. 

Duties:
  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate a trauma-informed, integrated treatment approach with youth and families with cooccurring psychiatric and substance disorders that adheres to and upholds the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.
  2. Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information in accordance with agency policies and procedures and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA.
  3. Complete documentation in an electronic health record as appropriate.
  4. Participate in agency orientation and continuing training requirements, treatment team and staff meetings.
  5. Maintain professional demeanor and boundaries with service partners, parents, families, staff, and community partners.
  6. Schedule, prepare, and participate in a minimum of one hour of regular, weekly, one-to-one supervision with clinical supervisor, field instructor and/or Program Manager and two hours of regular, weekly group supervision with Clinical Supervisor.
Clinical Intern/Trainee Specific Duties Also Include:
  • Complete intake interviews and bio-psycho-social assessments including risk assessment, mental status examination, safety and trauma assessments, substance abuse assessments, DSM-5 diagnosis, treatment planning, and case conceptualization.
  • Develop and practice basic and advanced intervention skills with children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups with supervision and training.
  • Develop basic crisis intervention skills and be able to create and carry out a safety plan with support.
  • Follow through with risk assessments, safety planning, and mandated reporting with support.
  • Develop and practice basic and advanced psychoeducation and training skills with support.
  • Conduct outreach to the community to enroll youth and families in appropriate services.
  • Assist Service Partners/families with accessing available community resources as needed.
  • Create and maintain timely and professional documentation specific to interventions.
  • Develop and maintain a plan to address intrapersonal and interpersonal issues particularly those concerning legal and ethical standards of the agency and the specific profession.
Qualifications: Working toward Master’s, doctorate, or other advanced degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field and eligible for internship or practicum. Must possess Bachelor’s degree and experience in the provision of social services. Must be able to seek consultation and supervision while working both autonomously and in multi-disciplinary teams. Effective communication and leadership required. Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity.  Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care.  Bilingual preferred.  Must have a valid California driver’s license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle. Must be willing to use personal vehicle to drive to assignments, and occasionally transport clients with agency vehicle if permitted by University.  Friendly demeanor and positive attitude are a necessity.  Internship offer is contingent on clearances which include fingerprinting, background checks, driving record and drug testing.
